What’s the first thing you remember when you think about Rachmaninoff? It’s certainly not the surprising and underrated Piano Concerto 1 that Rachmaninoff composed when he was just 18 years old. Here we can hear one of the best piano concerto overtures with the awe-inspiring sound of the horns and the challenging piano chords that ride with incredible speed in these powerful Rachmaninoff notes.
I think everyone agrees that Piano Concertos No. 2 and No. 3 are the two most famous works by Rachmaninoff, however I believe this composition deserved more recognition.
Here we have, as usual, Rachmaninoff’s genius and romanticism. The second walking movement is one of the most beautiful things you will ever hear.
