I was playing classical recitals in the 70’s and was contently badgered to dress “younger” and more conservatively than I wanted to. There was also the “advise” to not make that face during the “sostenuto”. I might have continued playing publicly had I been able to dress how I wanted to and played the scores I desired…and make the same faces that males could…
