Debussy – Clair de Lune | Piano

How do you feel when you hear clair de lune by debussy? For me this beautiful composition conveys an atmosphere of peace and tranquility. This song really deserves all its popularity and is for sure one of the most beautiful piano pieces of all time. It was inspired by a poem by Paul Verlaine from which Debussy also takes the title of his remarkable piano work known as the Bergamasque Suite.

The surprising clair de lune is the third movement of the famous piano suite. Debussy was the greatest representative of musical impressionism, his search for new harmonic and melodic forms presents us with many incredible and revolutionary works.

When we hear the reflective sound of clair de lune’s piano, we can associate its 9th and 13th chords with the colors of a beautiful impressionist painting by Monet or Van Gogh. A true sentimental walk through this moonlit night that surprises us all with its mysterious beauty.

In the first chords of this beautiful piano piece Debussy presents us with a soft music with a simple and cozy melody, in the course of the music you can see other interesting features of this small masterpiece such as fingerings, cadences and musical modulations that bring us back to many memories, emotions and many feelings that are conveyed by the sounds of the piano.

Well friends, my suggestion here is to recommend this beautiful composition to all those who like classical music or are looking for a beautiful solo piano piece. You will also be able to appreciate one of the most famous impressionist paintings while listening to clair de lune. Hope you like it and enjoy this brief moment.

Debussy – Clair de Lune (Lang Lang)

“Beauty must appeal to the senses, must provide us with immediate enjoyment, must impress us or insinuate itself into us without any effort on our part.” – Claude Debussy

Poem by Paul Verlaine that inspired Debussy

Your soul is a chosen landscape
Where charming masquerades and dancers are promenading,
Playing the lute and dancing, and almost
Sad beneath their fantastic disguises.

While singing in a minor key
Of victorious love, and the pleasant life
They seem not to believe in their own happiness
And their song blends with the light of the moon,

With the sad and beautiful light of the moon,
Which sets the birds in the trees dreaming,
And makes the fountains sob with ecstasy,
The slender water streams among the marble statues.
