Some interesting facts about Beethoven’s life

 

  • Nobody knows his exact date of birth, he was born in December 1770 – but his father’s attempts to make the musical prodigy look younger led him to believe for years that he was born in 1772.
  • His father forced him to practice day and night. He studied for hours on a bench to reach the keyboard.
  • Its earliest known composition is a set of nine piano variations that were composed in 1782, Beethoven used the C minor tonality, this was not very common for the time.
  • On his first trip to Vienna in 1787, Beethoven planned to meet and perform for Mozart. But we do not know for sure what happened. Legend has it that in fact the two geniuses of the music met, on this occasion Mozart would have spoken to the young pianist: “he will give the world something to speak”.
  • For a short time. Beethoven took composition lessons with Joseph Haydn another great Austrian composer.
  • During the time that he lived in Vienna Beethoven made several notes in his diary of tasks.
  • The musicians who preceded Beethoven, liked to compose for Cravo, but he decided to dedicate himself to a little-known new instrument called Piano.
  • He began to become deaf around 1796, at age 25. Thanks to his great musical talent Beethoven could feel the sound vibrations emitted by his compositions. This helped him to perceive the music in a totally original way.
  • He was 30 when his No. 1 symphony was performed in Vienna on April 2, 1800.
  • In 1802 he referred to his deafness with these words: “I would have finished my life, it was only my art that brought me back.”
  • The bagel Für Elise is best known among its pieces for piano, This small piece for piano was dedicated to the opera singer Elisabeth Röckel.
  • Beethoven composed only a single opera entitled Fidelio.
  • Beethoven’s Ninth Symphony is especially famous for its final movement, which brings together chorus and soloists to interpret verses from Ode to Joy.
  • Regent Herbert von Karajan suggested that the recording of the ninth symphony should allow listening without the need to “turn the disc”. In this way the CD was released in 1982 with a capacity extended to 74 minutes.
  • Beethoven was German, but built his career in Vienna in Austria. It left about 240 works, among which symphonies, concerts, string quartets and other chamber pieces and only an opera.

Beethoven’s music is divided into three distinct phases. The first musical phase shows his early career and the influences he received from Haydn and Mozart. The second phase presents us with its more intimate, romantic and sentimental side. The third phase the great composer realizes his last works.
